Head instructor, John Wai, began training Kung Fu as a kid while growing up in Hong Kong and began teaching in the mid 1980s. Since then he’s produced many champions in forms, weaponry and full contact fighting. In 1997, John Wai Kung Fu opened its doors and quickly earned the reputation for providing the highest quality martial arts. John is the Vice President of the U.S. Traditional Kung Fu Wushu Federation and holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Senior Instructor, Osei Xavier has trained in multiple disciplines of martial arts. From Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu to Muay Thai, Sanshou & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He holds several titles as a Sanshou Champion and is a purple belt in BJJ.
Instructor, Tamer Mahfouz, began as a student at John Wai Kung Fu Academy in 1997 at the age of 5 and by 14 received his black belt. Tamer also holds a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and is trained in Muay Thai, Sanshou and Mixed Martial Arts. Over nearly 2 decades, Tamer, has won 50 medals in Kung Fu competitions including silver medals at both Grappler’s Quest and Naga.
Senior Instructor, Bill Wright, began his training under the late Master Lee Koon Hung and has over 22 years of training in Choy Lay Fut. Bill has also trained in, Yang style Tai Chi, internal style, Lok Hop Bat Fa and Chi Gong, in addition to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Bill is highly respected in the Kung Fu Tournament circuit having gone undefeated for 3 consecutive years.
Senior Instructor, Curline Dvorok, has been training Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu for over 13 years. She is a top competitor in forms and weapons and a three-time Grand Champion. Curline is a dedicated member of our Dragon and Demo Team, performing in forms, weapons and as a musician.
Senior Instructor, Martin Dvorok, began his extensive martial arts training as a young man in Europe and has over 30 years of experience. His disciplines include Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Karate, and Wushu. In 1999, he began training Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu and through a strong training ethic and natural ability he quickly advanced and earned his black belt.
Senior Instructor, Dossy Lewin, began her Kung Fu training in 1989 with Northern Eagle Claw, ultimately earning her black belt. For the last 17 years, Dossy, has been training in, Choy Lay Fut. She is a black belt in Choy Lay Fut and has won several gold medals in both forms and weaponry competition.
Instructor, Michael O’Connell, has been training kickboxing for 8 years and practicing Sanshou for the past 2 years. Michael also holds NCAA powerlifting titles in back squat at 205lb and 231 lb weight class and won the USAPL NY championship silver medal.
Instructor, Maurice Morrison II, has been training for the past 14 years, half of which has been at John Wai Kung Fu Academy. Maurice has trained in Hung Ga, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, in which he holds a blue belt, Sanshou, Choy Lay Fut, and wrestling. He has won gold medals in Naga and ICMAC forms and fighting. Maurice holds a black belt in Choy Lay Fut.
Vanessa was a Kickboxing member for 6 months and fell in love with the workout. She found out very quickly that there was much more than just sweating and getting in better shape and became an instructor to help people with their fitness goals! She is continuously training and improving all her skills, and when she’s not pumping out round kicks you can find her horseback riding.
Brandon Chin has been training martial arts at our academy since the age of 5. Brandon is an active competitor in the Kung Fu tournament scene and is a 2 time Grand Champion in forms & weaponry. Brandon teaches in our Kids program and also is an integral member of our demo team.
Matthew has been training with us from a young age and specializes in Kung Fu & Kickboxing. Matthew teaches our Basic Skillz, Early Skillz & Junior classes.
